For this project, renowned photographer Dawoud Bey invited us to help produce a multimedia portrait of teenage identity. Bey created large color portraits of 12 teens.
The portraits were accompanied by our audio portraits, along with essays and photographs the teens chose to represent themselves. The photos, audio and text were presented an part of a major exhibit at the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago, which funded the project.
On the project’s opening night, a parent confided, in tears, that her daughter felt comfortable enough with us to share something extremely personal; something she knew her daughter had experienced, but never heard her articulate. It was one of the highest compliments we’ve ever received.
